What is CBD: Everything You Need to Know About

CBD is a buzzy wellness product that is all over the media at the moment. A few states it has legalized while some are still reluctant as they are not sure whether legalizing is the right move. In states where it is legal, you can buy them lattes from your local coffee shop, enjoy a CBD facial at the spa or simply buy hemp oils at the dispensary across the street. Additionally, all your anxious coworkers and arthritis suffering friends can’t wait to get their hands in CBD gummies

However, despite CBD being much insinuating, most people don’t grasp what exactly is it, how it differs from marijuana, whether it’s legal or not, and what are the best ways to use this.  We understand, and the confusion and that is why we took the time to ask experts pressing questions regarding cbd before preparing this guide.

What is CBD?

CBD is short for Cannabidiol a chemical product from cannabis Sativa, which is commonly known as marijuana. It’s an organically occurring element used in oils and edibles to pass on relaxation and calm feeling.  It cannot be compared to other marijuana products like delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) as it’s not psychoactive.  What this means is that although CBD and THC have similar therapeutic attributes, it does not make one intoxicated or “stoned”

How is CBD different from marijuana?

The cannabis Sativa plant is made of two major components: CBD vs THCCBD is the non-psychoactive part of the plant, unlike THC which will make you feel effects like euphoria. Cannabidiol is a vital component in medical marijuana and is specifically sourced from the hemp plant, a cousin of the marijuana plant.

Despite CBD being a component of marijuana out of the hundreds, it does not cause any “high” feeling.  Further research led us to a report by WHO that shows this does not exhibit any effects of abuse or dependence upon use. Additionally, the report also claims there are no health-related problems from using pure CBD, unlike in marijuana.

If you consume this, you will not feel sedated in any way as there is little to none THC components in CBD.  Marijuana, on the other hand, is made from THC the Psychoactive part of cannabis Sativa, which will make you sedated upon use.

What does the research say about CBD?

According to the co-director of the Center for Medical Cannabis Research (CMCR) Dr. J Hamptom Atkinson, there are various therapeutic effects of CBD. Still, so far, there is little evidence of efficiency.  What this means is that it has great benefits, but since little research has been carried out on this area, there is no evidence to prove it’s actually a drug.

However, further research led us to ClinicalTrial.gov a federal database that tested whether CBD can treat various health conditions. Some of the trials were carried on diseases like alcoholism, skin diseases, autism, and Schizophrenia.  The results show this is effective in treating these conditions but when taken as CBD Dosage

Other research suggests it can reduce anxiety and self-deprecating ideas. Additionally, there is proof CBD has an antipsychotic effect on people who have Schizophrenia. Scientific research takes time before a verdict is offered, but researchers believe it has promising potential.

How does CBD work?

CBD interacts with our bodies in various ways. One of these ways involves our bodies mimicking and augmenting effects of the compound while it’s in our bodies which are commonly termed as endogenous cannabinoids. Scientists commonly term this as the endocannabinoid system.

The endocannabinoid system has increased our understanding of how it works. The system plays a major role in regulating our body’s physiological process which affects our daily experiences like blood pressure, mood, energy levels, glucose metabolism, hunger, stress, and how we experience pain.  It modulates the endocannabinoid system by either slowing or stopping disease progression.

There are various ways one can use CBD, and whichever way you choose should be based on your goals and lifestyle. For example, if you want it for anxiety, one should look for a fast-acting product that will get the job done quickly. Additionally, make sure whether you want it to be discrete and whether you are selective about texture and taste.
